Opinion was divided on the question of selling crofts, or croft land, to the highest bidder.

Some people felt that the right to sell to the highest bidder could not be removed, but they had reservations, and felt that the right to sell should be regulated.

There was general concern about decrofting for multiple house sites (and the associated problem that crofts sell for their development value) and the impact this has on the community.

The impact on a community was (through experience) and through thought is devastating.
It tears apart families, business/s lives and livelihoods, it separates friends, and it alienates all but those who really don't care.
Eviction rates are high, and for true farmers and crofters there is no way forward other than to attempt to secure another lease of similar nature.
Being a tenant is not bad unless you are in the unfortunate position of having a landlord who has dollar signs instead of eyes.
Mine was one such fellow (and I use the word fellow loosely and as only in a manner of speech) there are other names all of which would not I know be allowed on this forum, but I have to say and in all honesty the "------" did me and mine a big favour in forcing me to reonsider my future--- I chose crofting as a tenant.
Not a bad choice, considering the alternatives.
Living outwith crofting, is not for me.
