Opinion was divided on the question of selling crofts, or croft land, to the highest bidder.

Some people felt that the right to sell to the highest bidder could not be removed, but they had reservations, and felt that the right to sell should be regulated.

There was general concern about decrofting for multiple house sites (and the associated problem that crofts sell for their development value) and the impact this has on the community.
